Whangarei Heads

If you’re a visitor to Whangarei Heads – or, if you have friends or relatives who come and visit, make sure they are aware that there are kiwi throughout the region. Dogs of all shapes and sizes should be kept on a leash and not allowed to roam -night and day.

Whangarei Heads is unique – there are not many holiday spots with great beaches, big surf, fishing, swimming – and lots of kiwi too!

Visiting in the winter can be especially rewarding – the water isn’t as warm, but the kiwi can be heard almost every night throughout the early months of winter, before they start nesting.
